SEA Games 31 Is The Fantastic Opportunity to Boost Vietnam Tourism

The grand opening ceremony of the 31st SEA Games left a positive impression on visitors. After two years of closure due to COVID-19, hosting the 31st SEA Games is seen as an opportunity for Vietnam to attract foreign travelers. As a result, a number of regions and tourism businesses have launched a campaign to entice foreign travelers, primarily from Southeast Asia, to visit Vietnam during this period.

The Federal Tourism Company immediately devised short-term packages for foreign travelers to see the SEA Games while also visiting Vietnam, less than a month after the formal announcement on the plan for staging the 31 SEA Games in locations. Hundreds of people have signed up for tours up until this time.

SEA Games 31 is seen as an opportunity to draw foreign travelers to Vietnam, particularly from Southeast Asia, thus not only travel companies, hotels, and restaurants are preparing to welcome visitors.

According to the Hanoi Department of Tourism, the 31st Southeast Asian Games will bring over 1 million domestic visitors and 200,000 international visitors to Hanoi, therefore various events have been planned to enhance the tourist experience.

"At the moment, there are 74 civilized streets that have been painted and adorned by districts, selling souvenirs, fashion, and sportswear to meet the demands of the area." The Department of Hanoi Industry and Trade will open a high-quality souvenir market outside My Dinh stadium.

Foreign travelers to Vietnam climbed 2.4 times in April compared to the previous month, with 192,400 arrivals registered in four months, according to the General Statistics Office. As a result, SEA Games 31 is considered to be a "golden" chance for Vietnam to accelerate its tourism recovery, with the goal of hosting around 5 million international visitors by 2022.
