VNAT and TikTok Collaborate on A tourism Promotion Media Plan

In May 2022, the Vice Chairman of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) met with Ms. Teresa Tan, Head of Public Policy Southeast Asia and Singapore, TikTok, and the delegation in Ha Noi to discuss the implementation of the communication cooperation plan to promote and stimulate future tourism development in Vietnam.

TikTok is a social networking platform for young people that allows them to create, share, and discover short films. It has received over 3 billion downloads worldwide since its launch in 2017. This is regarded as a successful mobile marketing tool with a huge community and the capacity to encourage users to participate in trends, thanks to the benefit of short, simple videos.

TikTok was officially released in Vietnam on April 24th, 2019 after a testing period. In the same year, TikTok and Vietnam Tourism Review (under VNAT) signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in Promoting Vietnam Tourism, beginning the #HelloVietnam initiative to promote Vietnam tourism through video tools.

Despite being hampered by COVID-19, the parties have launched four media campaigns for localities in the last two years: #HelloVietnam, #HelloDanang, #HelloNinhbinh, and #HelloQuangNam; and implemented the campaign #ancungtiktok, which promotes Vietnamese food.

TikTok has debuted a new product in Vietnam, which is an e-commerce solution for entertainment and shopping (TikTok Shop). TikTok Shop is a cutting-edge e-commerce platform that caters to both shoppers and merchants, as well as content creators.

Mr. Nguyen Lam Thanh - Representative of TikTok Vietnam - requested that the #HelloVietnam campaign be continued to encourage people to create short material on scenery, culture, cuisine, and Vietnamese lifestyle and share it on the TikTok platform in order to promote tourism growth in Vietnam. Organize specialized training classes on TikTok for Business creative advertising and TikTok Shop e-commerce solutions to improve the digital skills of tourism organizations and businesses.

TikTok is a highly engaging social platform that attracts a big number of young people, according to leaders of departments and units under VNAT at the meeting. As a result, using the TikTok platform to promote tourism will be one of the answers to maintaining tourist promotion in Vietnam.

VNAT Vice Chairman Nguyen Le Phuc praised TikTok's achievements and superiority in trade promotion and stimulation activities, saying that the partnership will help Vietnam's tourist industry communicate, promote, and maintain e-commerce and digital transformation.

Mr. Nguyen Le Phuc agreed to keep implementing the TikTok collaboration program and the collaborative content TikTok supplied. Vice-Chairman Nguyen Le Phuc of VNAT has designated Vietnam Tourism Review as the main point for continuing to implement TikTok collaboration.
