  • In 1995, UNESCO declared Luang Prabang a World Heritage Site due to its palm-lined riverbanks, ornate golden temples, and ancient monuments against the backdrop of Mt. Phousi. The tranquility and charm of this town, with its splendid natural scenery and cultural sights, make it one of the most delightful places to visit in Laos.

  • Today, wake up before dawn to witness and take in offering alms to hundreds of saffron-robed monks in the early morning light. This is also one of the ways that Buddhists can make merit, helping contribute good circumstances for the future.
     
    Spend this memorable day exploring the key highlights that contribute to the elegant tranquility of this charming town: The Royal Palace, a mix of French beaux-arts and Laos architecture that is now a National Museum housing the precious collections of the Royal artifacts; Wat Xieng Thong, a Lao-style masterpiece of mosaics and carved wood; Wat Vitsoun, Luang Prabang's oldest temple, which houses the Prabang Buddha's statues and steles in simple architecture; Wat Mai - one of the town's most luxurious monasteries with classic Laos architecture. An in-depth discussion with local monks about daily life, Buddhism, and Lao culture is the highlight of this excursion.
     
    As the sun sets, take in breathtaking views of the Mekong and Khan rivers and the surrounding mountain range from the peak of Mount Phousi.

    The Ock Pop Tok Living Crafts Centre is an artisan social enterprise where the fascinating world of Lao textiles comes alive! Meet with one of our Cultural Ambassadors and tour around the center to learn about silkworms and receive a brief introduction to the different natural dying methods. Observe the local weavers create splendid masterpieces by traditional technics. Cap off your visit at the Silk Road Café overlooking to Mekong River, an ideal place for enjoying delicious canapes and cocktails while watching the peaceful sunset over the river.

    Optional: Private Baci ceremony and home-hosted dinner
    The Baci ceremony is a national tradition in Laos. It is a traditional celebration of weddings, births, homecomings, and departures to wish people luck and health. Baci ceremonies can be held year-round, preferably before noon or sunset. A village elder will tie a white cotton thread around your wrist and chant an invocation to strengthen the blessing. Spend some time sharing cultures, join family activities, and have a meal with the host. Take this opportunity to learn from the family how to make and eat traditional sticky rice and other delicious dishes. Savor a simple yet tasty dinner of Lao specialties prepared by the family members. Later, bid farewell to your new friends and return to your hotel.

  • Rice is the fundamental basis of Asian life, and many westerners are curious about rice farming. Luang Prabang's surrounding villages gain from abundant freshwater and rich soil that produce the region's best rice. A truly memorable tour to the outskirts of Luang Prabang will give you a glimpse into the challenging life of a local farmer and learn about growing wet rice and to see the unique agricultural equipment used by Laos' many minority groups. Participating in all stages of white rice production, from choosing seeds to planting to plowing (with the help of water buffalo) and harvesting, is a fascinating and educational activity in itself.
     
    The Kuang Si waterfall, a multi-tiered cascade of pale turquoise blue water flowing from the thick jungle above into perfectly sculpted limestone pools below, is one of Luang Prabang's most beautiful sights. Follow the unpaved trail as it gradually climbs through the forest to reach different levels of natural blue pools, some are shallow and one central pool has a rope swing. Hike through the Asian Bear Rescue Center, home to over 20 rescued Asiatic Black Bears. Trees, swings, and other toys are in the bears' enclosure.
