Cambodia And Indonesia Join The Meeting To Revive Post-Pandemic Tourism

The meeting lists the following areas of cooperation: connectivity, capacity building, private cooperation, capacity management, meetings, incentives, conferences, exhibits (MICE), and events cooperation.

In a formal ceremony on Friday (24/6), Sudirman Haseng, the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia, presented a copy of the Memorandum of Understanding on Indonesia-Cambodia Tourism Cooperation to Dr. Thong Khon, Cambodia's Minister of Tourism. On January 18, 2022, outside of the ASEAN Tourism Forum, Sandiaga Uno, Indonesia's minister of tourism and creative economy, and Dr. Thong Khon, Cambodia's minister of tourism, circulated this Memorandum of Understanding on Tourism Cooperation.

The tourism industry in Cambodia has begun to rebound since the pandemic, according to the minister of tourism. According to Minister Thong Khon, by May 2022, there were around 343,000 foreign visitors in Cambodia, a sharp increase of 272 percent from the previous year. Regarding connectivity, the Minister believes that the suspension of direct flights between Phnom Penh and Jakarta in 2019 can soon be lifted in order to promote travel between the two nations.
