Celebrate Vesak: A Spiritual Glimpse into Buddhist Traditions

Throughout Southeast Asia, Buddhist communities are coming alive with activities in commemoration of the birth, enlightenment, and death of the Buddha. Observed under different names and traditions across countries, Vesak Day (or Wesak) finds itself celebrated on this 2025 timeline:

▪️In Thailand, Laos and Cambodia: May 11 - as Visakha Bucha and Visak Bochea
▪️In Vietnam: May 12 - as Lễ Phật Đản

During Vesak, temples across the country are beautifully adorned with lotus lanterns, vibrant flags, and symbolic decorations depicting scenes from Buddha’s life. The air is filled with the sound of chants, the aroma of incense, and the warmth of community gatherings. Devout Buddhists engage in charitable acts such as donating to the needy, volunteering at shelters, and offering vegetarian meals as acts of compassion and merit.

The most beautiful of all must be the colorful lanterns and lamps. Enlightened by the display are devotees and non-devotees, who gather in temples and around big lakes to raise flying lanterns and put flower boats to sail.
